Let's see, you may be using this season's turmeric for seasoning and tea, but have you considered growing it? I did what this short description on Sow True Seeds says, then waited three months or so, then almost gave up on anything growing, and then, suddenly had little shoots!
Those grew into a lovely plant (pic below) that's easy to care for as long as it stays in the shade. I started with three little turmeric nubs, all in one starter pot (a #1-sized container) and later replanted the shoots in a clay pot (17-inch diameter) from Orlando's family-run Palmer's Garden & Goods (truly a tranquil and friendly locale with reasonable prices).
If I got my turmeric to grow (and stay alive :), you can, too -- and I hear that it produces lovely flowers!
